WellPRO: Tyler Saso

"The candle is not diminished by giving another light."
--Anonomous

This month's WellPRO is someone really special to me named Tyler Saso.  I'm excited to highlight Tyler this month because I feel Tyler, and young professionals like him, are a huge part of the solution for America's ailing health today.  This guy is on fire for health and fitness and is a wellness person to the very core.  We need this guy and others like him NOW!

I've watched Tyler grow up the last few years.  Tyler was one of my college football players in 2004 when I first started pre-season collegiate football conditioning.  He got so inspired by wellness and fitness in Spring of 2004 that he went into it full-time after college.  I just found out the last few months that two other guys from Tyler's team also became inspired by wellness and are now pursuing health and fitness full-time in their studies as well which is really exciting to me.

In the spring of 2004, Tyler was eager to learn all my "alternative" methods.  More than just knowing to do them, he wanted to know why we were doing them and how they worked.  He carried this zest for learning into his university program.  During his tenure at University Nebraska at Kearney, Tyler kept in close touch with me.  I was honored to help him on a few school projects and give him some training tips as he continued to play football on scholarship.

After completing his major course work, Tyler returned to help me with his former community college football program by serving as my intern through University of Nebraska at Kearney.  I was putting the finishing touches on my conditioning program for BC Football, and Tyler was once again eager to help, learn, and very important to me, "teach me" what he had learned in school that I did not know.   He's got incredible precision with the Olympic lifts which were never my specialty.  He also helped us with special stretching techniques that were highly effective for improving player performance and decreasing injury.  Tyler ran all the workouts when I was on the road with my business and was a great contributor to adjusting the program.  He's one of the brightest and most exciting young men I've ever had the honor of working with.

Following his internship, Tyler quickly accelerated through the certification process with the National Academy of Sports Medicine to earn his professional certifications and began his own fitness training business.  His clients are quickly losing weight and getting super fit--as I knew they would!

Tyler and I are now colleagues together as we work hard to improve American health and fitness through corporate projects and other fitness training collaborations.  He is also helping me with my new High-Performance Training Workshops in 2008.

I asked Tyler what he wanted people to know and understand in this interview about him as a person and about wellness.  As a fitness pro and person that cares about America, he wants you to know health and wellness is beyond exercise--it's a lifestyle that has multiple components.  When it's all there--it works--WELL.  Don't believe him?  Two of his clients the last six months have lost 40-60 pounds each!  Fancy supplements and expensive gym memberships?  Ha!  Tyler trains his people at the park or their homes with simple body weight or basic equipment.  He also wants people to know that true wellness is more about feeling good than looking good superficially.  I would have to agree.  A lot of people pay doctors to modify their bodies on the surface, but internally they still have major problems.  His final word--commit, then you'll experience a total "lifestyle" change.  Words of wisdom and the truth--and he's just getting started!

When it comes to today's health and fitness needs, Tyler is a guy to put on the bus.  He's on his way to being one of the best.  He's not just a great trainer but am ambassador for health that proactively helps his community and models optimal health everyday of his personal life.  So WELLcome aboard Tyler Saso.  You are truly a WellPRO making a difference with youth through adults to improve health!
